Being a Bug in the Cold

Being a bug during cold weather would be really difficult since insects are ectothermic. If I was a bug, I would definitely want to be in the pupa stage during winter. Pupae just find a place to chill and pretty much just sit there until they go through metamorphosis and transform into an adult. Adults have to eat, but during the winter plants are dead and other bugs are not out and about. This means they would starve. If I had to be an adult insect, I would try to migrate somewhere warm like south California or Mexico.  I would also try to make use of man-made structures, such as moving into attics or garages or something and overwinter. The only risk of using man-made structures is being disturbed by the human inhabitants. I would also want to be an egg, but only if I wouldn’t hatch for a while because if I hatched in the middle of winter, even in a warm dwelling I am still faced with the issue of feeding. I would try to stay in a hollow tree/log or cocoon myself. I would be protected from the cold and predators that would want to eat me. If I was a larva I would try to stay hidden and warm under piles of leaves or bury myself underground. I would also try to find a nice rock to hide under.
